Statement on Oxfordshire being moved to Tier 4 from Boxing Day

Wednesday, 23 December, 2020

I am really sorry to see the county is being moved to Tier 4 from Boxing Day, alongside the rest of the South East and various other parts of the country from Norfolk to Hampshire. I have consistently wanted to see us in the lowest tier as long as cases remained low but we have seen a sharp rise in cases in recent days, which is believed to be linked to the new variant. This link shows the case rates up to the 18th December and they will be higher still as of today.

More importantly there has been a sharp rise in hospitalisations in the last week.

Details of what Tier 4 means can be found here.

I hope at least some of you can still enjoy Christmas Day which is not affected for Oxfordshire by today's announcement.
