The A420 and the A34 need considerable improvements. There are far too many tragic accidents and near misses, and some residents have now taken to avoiding these roads altogether.

We need the A420 re-established as a local road with good bus stops, crossings, walkways, and the lorries diverted elsewhere. We also need urgent safety upgrades on the A34.

I have met with the Roads Minister and National Highways multiple times to discuss this and have led a debate in Parliament focusing on the safety issues with the A420 and A34. I continue to regularly raise it.

There is also a more general need for investment to improve roads across the constituency, some of which remain blighted with potholes and poor road surfacing. I have regularly raised this with the Council and Highways England, who have responsibility for this - but I strongly welcome the extra £200 million the Government has given to fix potholes across the country, with £3,706,000 going to Oxfordshire in 2023.

I also regularly raise speeding and pothole complaints with the local council, which has frequently led to speeding measures being introduced and repairs being completed.

I have now launched my Local Roads Survey to give you the opportunity to tell me exactly where you are seeing issues on our roads that need to be resolved – – including potholes, congestion, speeding and other safety concerns. Together, we can work to secure much-needed road improvements for our area.

David launches his Local Roads Survey

Since I was elected as your MP in 2019, many local residents have been in touch with me to share their concerns about the condition of our roads. I share these concerns and I experience these issues myself when I drive around our area.
